This study presents a comprehensive review of cybersecurity research published between 2014 and 2023, focusing on trends, gaps, and methodologies used in the field from 462 research papers. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the study integrates quantitative and qualitative analyses. The quantitative component includes bibliometric analysis to assess the volume, geographical distribution, and key trends in research topics, while the qualitative component involves thematic analysis to identify gaps and underexplored areas. The review reveals that research has grown significantly in areas such as cloud computing, AI-powered cybersecurity, and mobile security, but also highlights recurring gaps such as the need for empirical validation, scalability concerns, and longitudinal analysis. By mapping the landscape of cybersecurity research, this study provides insights for future research directions, pinpointing areas requiring further investigation to address the evolving cybersecurity challenges.
