This study examines Imam Abū Muḥammad al-Ḥasan al-ʿUmānī’s methodology in establishing the principles of Tajwīd through the chapter “Tajwīd and Encouragement Toward It” in his book al-Awsat fī al-Qirāʾāt. The research argues that al-ʿUmānī viewed Tajwīd not merely as a set of theoretical rules, but as an integrated discipline combining precise phonetic articulation, refined recitational performance, and practical linguistic training. The study analyzes his treatment of concepts such as articulation, disciplined pronunciation, and the proper realization of letters through applied examples in idghām, iẓhār, and letter articulation. Adopting descriptive, analytical, and inductive approaches, the study concludes that al-ʿUmānī contributed significantly to the development of Tajwīd by uniting theoretical foundations with practical application, thereby occupying an important place in both the Qurʾānic recitational tradition and the Omani scholarly heritage.
